Book signings

BANGOR — Islandport Press, located in Yarmouth, announced that it has opened a seasonal bookselling cart at the Bangor Mall and will host Maine author and illustrator signing events during the holiday season.

The Islandport Books cart is open during normal mall hours and is located on the Macy’s wing of the Bangor Mall, 663 Stillwater Ave. The cart will remain open into January 2015. Islandport also has also opened a seasonal cart at The Maine Mall in South Portland.

The Bangor Mall event schedule is:

• 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, Gerry Boyle, author of “Deadline” and “Bloodline,” 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Noon-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, V. Paul Reynolds, author of “Backtrack.”

• 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, Tom Hennessey, author and illustrator of “Leave Some for Seed.”

• 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, Teresa Lagrange, illustrator of “2015 Garden Harvest.”

• Noon-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, V. Paul Reynolds, author of “Backtrack.”

• 11a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, George Danby, author of “The Essential Danby,” and Ardeana Hamlin, author of “Abbott’s Reach.”

Grand reopening

BREWER — The Tradewinds family of stores announced that the grand reopening of the Tradewinds Variety at 435 Wilson St. took place Nov.7 through 11.

The store has expanded its offering by adding the Anchor Deli open 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily. The Wave frozen yogurt cafe also has been added. It carries 15 yogurt flavors and more than 50 toppings.

The store remained open while the remodeling took place, beginning in early July. Store officials said customers are amazed at how the store went from being Stacy’s Garage to a modernized store with a café atmosphere complete with wifi, new restroom facilities and full convenience store.

Tradewinds officials said they extended thanks the city of Brewer, the First Apostolic Church and its staff for working together to make the project possible.

Yarn shop relocated

BREWER — Between Friends Art Center announced that Melissa MacCrae, owner of Spin a Yarn, is its newest addition. Spin a Yarn has relocated to the knitting nook in the gift shop of Between Friends Art Center, 39 Center St.

“I wasn’t going to be able to stay open,” said MacCrae, “but now I can. I am very very excited and thankful to Tracey for letting me share her space. There is so much going on here and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Owner of Between Friends Art Center Tracey Marceron said, “When I heard she was going to close, I knew I wanted to reach out and invite her to Between Friends. This is one direction I’d never be able to go in on by myself. I’m happy that Melissa will be able to continue to fill a need for her own loyal customers as well as my own.”

MacCrae will continue to teach knitting to her current students and host knitting socials. She will soon will begin offering adult knitting lessons, as well.
