ASHLAND, Maine — A Presque Isle man escaped with minor injuries after striking a moose Sunday night while traveling on Route 163, according to Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police.
Mark Forino, 34, was eastbound around 8:30 p.m. when the moose stepped in front of his 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan, near the Ashland-T11-R4 town line, Harris said
Forino was unable to avoid the moose and struck it, sending the animal crashing through the windshield and into the passenger compartment.
The moose narrowly avoided striking Forino who was not injured beyond having some broken glass flushed from his eyes at the scene by members of the Ashland Ambulance Department, Harris said.
The moose was killed in the accident.
