BANGOR, Maine — Emera Maine crews have been battling challenging weather conditions overnight, working to restore power to thousands in Penobscot, Hancock, Piscataquis and Washington counties in the wake of a powerful snowstorm that began Wednesday.

As of about 4 a.m., more than 9,000 customers were without power, according to Emera Maine.

Snow that was wet and heavier than originally forecasted brought down lines and tree limbs.

Crews will begin to assess the damage and make determinations regarding appropriate restoration times as the snowstorm moves away. Both internal and external crews will work throughout the day to get all customers restored as safely and quickly as possible.
