PORTLAND, Maine — Avery McPhatter of Orlando, Florida, scored a split-decision victory over Ryan Sanders of Young’s MMA in Bangor in the main event of the inaugural Toe 2 Toe Fights mixed martial arts promotion held Saturday night at the Portland Exposition Building.

McPhatter improved his record to 4-6 by winning the welterweight (170-pound) battle, while Sanders fell to 7-7.

The McPhatter-Sanders fight was one of five professional bouts on the card. Other pro results had Bill Jones of Berwick (12-7) defeating Jon Lemke (4-2) of Bangor and Team Irish via first-round rear-naked choke; Lloyd Reyes (1-2) scoring a second-round stoppage via strikes of Team Irish’s Tommy Balzano (1-4); Vovka Clay (3-0) defeating Tollison Lewis (0-3) by first-round rear-naked choke; and George Nassar (1-0) stopping Wayne Harnois (3-15) on strikes in the first round.

Andrew Tripp of Team Irish improved his record to 8-1 with a first-round victory (strikes) over Albert Tully (6-9) in one of six amateur bouts on the card. Other winners were Adam Nielsen and John Lough of Team Irish, Nick Spencer, Duncan Zechariah-Smith and Abram Marr.
