WINDSOR, Maine — A local woman is in jail Thursday after a Wednesday night incident in which a Kennebec County sheriff’s deputy was nearly shot.
The sequence of events leading to the arrest of Allison Trask, 31, started at 7 p.m. when Sgt. Galen Estes responded to a Legion Park Road home when residents reported hearing a loud bang, according to Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon.
The residents had feared it was their daughter, who was described as possibly suicidal, according to Reardon.
When Estes arrived and tried to make contact with Trask through a locked door, she responded with “go away you [expletive] pig,” Reardon said.
“It was clear that she was not cooperative,” Reardon said.
Trask’s father described the loud noise as sounding like a gunshot, but he had not known his daughter possessed a firearm, Reardon said.
As Estes unlocked the door and tried to push it open, Trask stood behind it pushing on it, attempting to keep it closed, Reardon said. The sergeant eventually pushed his way through to make contact, upon which Trask attempted to point the weapon at him, Reardon said.
Estes pinned the gun down and Trask fired a shot, burning the sergeant’s hand, but the bullet did not strike Estes, Reardon said.
Trask was disarmed and taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and reckless conduct with a firearm, Reardon said. More charges are possible.
Estes suffered minor burns to his hand but was able to continue with his shift, Reardon said.
“We are shocked at the actions taken by Trask,” Reardon said. “It is a blessing that more people were not injured.”
Trask is being held on $4,000 bail at the Kennebec County Jail.
