Wind and arctic air are expected to put the state into a deep freeze Monday night and into Tuesday, the National Weather Service has reported.

The weather service’s Gray office reported Monday afternoon that cold air was beginning to filter in, and much of the state is under wind chill warnings and advisories.

According to the weather service, Aroostook County is expected to see the coldest wind chill factors Monday night, with air temperatures expected to be between 20 and 25 below zero with a wind chill factor of 40 to 50 below zero.

The Bangor area can expect wind chills about 20 to 25 below zero, and about 10 to 20 below zero for Augusta and points south, according to the weather service.

The weather service doesn’t expect any records to be broken.

Power was expected to be restored to those affected by 2 p.m. Monday.
