HERMON, Maine — A home on Route 2 was heavily damaged by fire on Thursday afternoon, displacing a family.
The blaze sent crews from seven fire departments to a two-story home near the busy intersection of Route 2 and Billings Road in the center of town, forcing traffic to be diverted.
Hermon Fire Chief Ray Pipes said a resident who was home at the time managed to get out safely, and no injuries were reported.
Central Maine Power crews got to the scene around the same time firefighters did, so fire crews were able to perform a quick attack from the exterior of the building knowing that its power had been cut off, Pipes said.
Most of the fire was contained to the attic area, Pipes said, and a ladder truck from Bangor was brought in so crews could attack the blaze from the roof.
The fire was under control in about 15 to 20 minutes, Pipes said.
A cause has not yet been determined.
Firefighters from Hermon, Hampden, Bangor, Carmel, Levant, Glenburn and Etna fought the fire.
Pipes said it’s not clear if the home was insured, but the Red Cross is assisting the victims.
Red Cross regional spokesman John Lamb said Thursday night that four members of the Hermon household are being assisted.
