BRUNSWICK, Maine — A Brunswick man arrested Thursday night after a standoff with police at the New Meadows Motel will appear in court Friday afternoon.
Robert Lind, 39, was charged with domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon following the incident, which drew the Brunswick Police Department’s Special Response Team and officers from three other communities.
Police were called to a cabin at the rear of the Bath Road motel just before 6:30 p.m.
Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said at the scene that a 29-year-old woman fled a cabin at the back of the motel and told police Lind was armed with a gun, had assaulted and threatened her and had made suicidal statements.
Patrol officers surrounded the cabin until the Special Response Team arrived, Sgt. Martin Rinaldi said.
“They set up a perimeter and had the area contained to ensure the safety of the citizens in the area,” Rinaldi said. “They did a great job.”
Guests in other cabins were evacuated.
With assistance from the Bath and Topsham police departments and Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, police attempted to convince Lind to emerge from the cabin. When the Special Response Team arrived and negotiated with Lind, he emerged peacefully and was taken into custody, according to a release from Lt. Todd Ridlon.
Police found several weapons including a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition in the cabin.
