FRYEBURG, Maine — State police are investigating the death of a husband and wife that is being classified as a domestic violence murder-suicide, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Tuesday morning.

The bodies of Jody Buzzell, 52, and her 52-year-old husband Mark, were located early Tuesday, according to McCausland.

The bodies were located in two separate buildings along Route 113, known locally as West Fryeburg Road, McCausland said.

The spokesman said Jody Buzzell was shot by her husband inside their residence sometime Monday afternoon, and police were called by relatives.

After hours of searching, a state police tactical team entered the house early Tuesday and found Buzzell’s body in a first-floor room around 1 a.m., and her husband’s body was located in a vacant residence next door about four hours later, according to McCausland.

Mark Buzzell had apparently left a note and also told family members he had killed his wife. The bodies will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office on Wednesday.

McCausland said Jody Buzzell’s death is the first homicide in Maine in 2015. Route 113 was closed for about 12 hours until Mark Buzzell’s body was located.
