FORT KENT — The Caribou High School boys and girls Nordic ski teams both finished first in the Aroostook League Freestyle Championships to win the league titles Thursday at the Maine Outdoor Center.
The host Fort Kent Warriors boys and girls teams earned a second-place finish in the championships.
The Caribou boys scored 35 points for a solid margin over Fort Kent (62 points). Presque Isle (97) placed third, followed by Madawaska (157), Ashland (188) and Fort Fairfield.
In the girls meet, Caribou tallied 30 points while Fort Kent posted 74. Presque Isle (104) and Madawaska took third and fourth, respectively, and Fort Fairfield totalled 213.
Riley McDuffie sparked Caribou with a first-place finish of 17 minutes, 56.3 seconds over the 5-kilometer course. Also gaining valuable points for the Vikings were: Elijah Verhoff (fifth, 19:08.4), Dan Randolph (sixth, 19:10.2), Alec Cyr (eighth, 19:11.1) and Caleb Willett (ninth, 19:11.2).
Fort Kent captured second, third and fourth, led by Matt Toussaint’s 17:59 clocking. He was followed by Tito Naranja (18:29.1) and David Roy (18:33.1).
In the girls race, Caribou swept the top three positions, paced by Sarah Doak’s first-place time of 21:25. She was followed by teammates Ciara Richard (23:41.1) and Lauren Chapman (24:06. Eileen Patton earned a seventh-place finish for Caribou in 25:46.1 and Kaitlyn Ring recorded a ninth in 26:13.3
Gentle Prescott paced Fort Kent with a fourth-place clocking 24:37.1 and teammate Jordan Tanguay placed fifth in 24:38.6.
