BANGOR, Maine — Multiple people were transported to the hospital Thursday after a three-vehicle accident at one of the city’s most dangerous intersections.
Police and rescue personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Ohio Street and Davis Road around 9:30 a.m. The accident involved two sedans and a minivan.
Bangor police Lt. Paul Edwards said at the scene a traffic violation at the four-way intersection may have contributed to the crash, but that remains under investigation.
“We’re still trying to sort out exactly what happened here,” Edwards said.
All patients were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to Edwards. One victim was ejected from a vehicle, the lieutenant said.
“It could’ve been a lot worse than it was,” said Edwards, who did not know the extent of the injuries.
The intersection, which sits at the bottom of a hill and features blinking lights, has seen its share of accidents over the years, Edwards said.
“It’s been looked at several times due to the hill, the general area of this accident,” Edwards said.
Edwards is also advising local motorists to avoid the area late Thursday morning as crews continue to work at the scene.
