SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A Sunday morning kitchen fire has left six people homeless in South Portland, including Conor Tubbs, who competed in this year’s American Idol as Cherry Lemonade.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, firefighters went to Ocean Street for a fire on the second floor of an apartment building. The fire was extinguished quickly but caused enough damage to make the apartment uninhabitable for the six people living there.

The Red Cross is providing assistance the residents of the burned apartment.

While no one was injured in the fire, six cats died.

The cause has been determined to be accidental.

Tubbs, who advanced to Hollywood in American Idol, lived on the first floor with his cousin.
