BAR HARBOR, Maine — A local woman and two Surry residents are in jail on charges of operating a meth lab at a house on Gilbert Farm Road, according to police.

Police with the Bar Harbor Police Department and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency took Joy Levesque, 40, into custody at her home Wednesday afternoon after spending about a week investigating tips about methamphetamine being manufactured at the home. Also arrested at the home were Elwood K. Carter, 48, and Melissa I. Morse, 46, both of Surry.

Carter was arrested on a warrant for failure to pay fines, while Levesque and Morse were arrested on bail violations, according to police and Hancock County Jail records.

According to a statement released about noon Thursday, during a subsequent search of the home, police seized a “significant amount of evidence consistent with the production of methamphetamine using a ‘shake and bake’ or ‘one pot’ method.”

All three people have since been arrested on Class B charges of trafficking in scheduled drugs, the MDEA said.

More arrests in the case are likely, police said in the release.
