ROCKLAND, Maine — Two public works employees were taken by ambulance to the hospital Monday morning after a van slammed into the back of their truck.
The driver of the van fled on foot but Rockland police Sgt. Donald Finnegan said he expects an arrest will be made.
The two city employees were treated and released from Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport after complaining of neck and back pain following the crash.
The incident occurred at 8:30 a.m. when the truck had stopped while on its route to empty municipal trash cans around the city. The truck was near the Maine State Ferry Terminal when the van rear-ended the city vehicle. A male driver ran from the scene.
The owner of the van later called police to report that the vehicle had been stolen, Finnegan said. There is a suspect and he expects someone will be charged soon as the investigation continues.
There was no estimate on damage to the vehicles. The names of the two employees were not immediately available from police.
