ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine-Farmington and UM-Presque Isle split a softball doubleheader with UMF winning the first game 6-1 and UMPI taking the second 8-3.

In the first game, UMF struck for four first-inning runs, highlighted by Jennifer Garrard’s two-run home run. Courtney Fowler earned the win, allowing only a hit and a run in five innings while walking three and striking out six.

Carly Bell singled for UMPI.

In the second game, Bell, Shannon Brown and Katie Patenaude each recorded a double, single and RBI to spark UMPI. Sara Packard earned the win by scattering six hits and three runs. She walked three and struck out three.

Maine drops two

At Clearwater, Florida, on Saturday, Maine finished its spring trip with a 5-3 loss to Central Connecticut State and 4-2 loss to Long Island University Brooklyn.

CentConn’s Laura Messina shut down the Black Bears in the first game as she struck out 13 and allowed just one earned run.

Maine scored a run in the fourth when Janelle Bouchard doubled and EmJ Fogel singled. Jessica Burk then fouled out to the catcher and Bouchard scored on the play.

The Black Bears added two more runs in the fifth on Felicia Lennon’s RBI double. She scored when Bouchard reached on an error.

Annie Kennedy suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs and 10 hits in five innings. She struck out two.

In the second game, LIU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, highlighted by Nicole Archer’s two-run homer.

Maine scored a run in the third on Burk’s RBI groundout. Bouchard added a run-scoring double in the seventh.

Alexis Bogdanovich took the loss after giving up two earned runs and five hits in four innings while striking out two.

Husson goes 2-2

At Winter Haven, Florida, on Saturday, Rowan beat Husson 14-1 and Eastern Connecticut State edged the Eagles 1-0.

On Sunday, Husson beat Skidmore 4-0 in eight innings and then edged Springfield 9-7.

ECSU’s Erin Miller held the Eagles to three hits while striking out six and not walking a batter.

Casey Lopes singled twice for Husson (3-7) and losing pitcher Deb Colpitts gave up three hits and a run, but didn’t walk a batter and struck out four.

Ashley DeYoung homered to spark Rowan and Alysa Romero doubled twice and drove in three runs.

Kayla Merrill and Lyndsay Merrill each doubled for Husson and Lopes had a sacrifice fly.

On Sunday, Kayla Merrill pitched 9 ⅓ innings over two games, giving up just two hits, to help Husson post the two wins and improve to 5-7.

Against Skidmore, Merrill pitched all eight innings, struck out 10 and gave up just one hit as the Eagles erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth to get the win.

Sam Schultz doubled home Haley Spiers for the winning run. Erika Parker and Kayla Merrill each added RBIs in the inning.

Lyndsay Merrill finished with a single and two triples.

Against Springfield, Kayla Merrill pitched the final 1 ⅓ innings and allowed just a hit to earn the save.

Allie Hill sparked Husson with a three-run double. Chelsea Brennan added three hits and an RBI while Shaniah Haskell had two hits and two RBIs.

Women’s Lacrosse

Salem State 10, UMF 8

At Salem, Massachusetts, on Saturday, Erin Riley scored three goals to lead Salem State by the University of Maine-Farmington.

Chyenne Jackson made 19 saves for Salem State (2-0) and Kayla Burgess had seven for UMF (0-1).

Ayla Allen sparked UMF with four goals while Maddi Kadnar, Rhi Jackson, Carly Raymond and Mara Balboni each had one.

Husson 17, Daniel Webster 2

At Nashua, New Hampshire, on Sunday, Husson scored 12 first-half goals to take the win.

Mattie Russell led the Eagles (1-2) with three goals and an assist while Alissa Fallon added two goals and two assists. Amanda Deshaines had a goal and three assists.

Kaitlin Dolloff made seven saves for Husson and Madison Platte had 11 for Daniel Webster.

Men’s Lacrosse

Husson 12, Johnson & Wales 11

At Providence, Rhode Island, on Saturday, Zack Glazier’s goal with nine seconds left in the game gave the Eagles the winning edge.

Glazier and Brandon Corbo each finished with four goals to lead Husson (1-2) and Brett Martin added two. Tom Lepage made 11 saves.

Max Stone led the Wildcats (1-3) with three goals and JC Guido had 12 saves.
