CARIBOU, Maine — While most of Maine will undoubtedly be wearing green on Tuesday to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day, there is potential for the colors of winter to again cast a shadow.

According to the National Weather Service’s Caribou forecast center, the potential is possible for accumulating snow on Tuesday.

Aroostook, Somerset, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock and Washington counties are at risk of precipitation thanks to a low-pressure system in the Gulf of Maine that will intensify on Tuesday, according to the weather service.

The system has potential to produce several inches of fresh snow, but uncertainty remains as to where the low will gain strength, which will have impact on snowfall amounts.
