Guard Kelley Austria hit the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 1:09 remaining and seventh-seeded Dayton advanced to its first Sweet 16 with a 99-94 upset of second-seeded Kentucky on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky.

Austria scored 17 points and clinched the win by hitting four free throws in the final 21 seconds. Forward Ally Malott led the Flyers (27-6) with 28 points and reserve guard Amber Deane added 23 on four 3-pointers.

The Flyers overcame 24 turnovers by shooting 57 percent from the field, making 61 percent of 3-pointers and going 28 of 31 from the foul line. Dayton will face the winner of Monday night’s Louisville-South Florida Saturday in the Albany region semifinals.

Guard Makayla Epps scored 22 of her 29 points in the second half for Kentucky (24-10). Guard Jennifer O’Neill added 16 for Kentucky, which shot 43 percent and was 24 of 38 from the line.

Duke 64, Mississippi State 56

Freshman forward Azura Stevens scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead fourth-seeded Duke over fifth-seeded Mississippi State 64-56 in the second round in Durham, N.C.

Blue Devils senior center Elizabeth Williams scored 12 points in her Cameron Indoor Stadium finale. Guard Rebecca Greenwell added 17 points for Duke (23-10).

The Blue Devils, coached by former University of Maine coach Joanne Palombo McCallie, shot 52 percent to earn a spot in the Sweet 16. They will play Monday night’s Princeton-Maryland winner on Saturday in the Spokane Region semifinals.

Forward Victoria Vivians scored 15 points and guard Kendra Grant added 12 for the Bulldogs (27-7).

Baylor 73, Arkansas 44

Forward Nina Davis scored 21 points and second-seeded Baylor advanced to its seventh straight Sweet 16 with a rout of 10th-seeded Arkansas in the second round of the Oklahoma City Regional in Waco, Texas.

Guards Kristy Wallace and Alexis Prince added 11 points for the Bears (32-3), who finished the first half with a 30-7 run. Guard Niya Johnson collected 12 assists for Baylor, which faces Iowa on Friday.

Forward Jessica Jackson led Arkansas (18-14) with 15 points but shot 4 of 18. The Razorbacks shot 25 percent overall and failed to advance past the second round for the fifth straight time since reaching the 1998 Final Four.

Iowa 88, Miami 70

Center Bethany Doolittle scored 22 points and guard Ally Disterhoft had 15 as third-seeded Iowa beat 11th-seeded Miami in a second-round game in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Hawkeyes (26-7) earned their first trip to the Sweet 16 since 1996 and will face Baylor in the Oklahoma City Region semifinals on Friday.

Doolittle, a 6-foot-4 senior, shot 8-for-16 and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Guard Jessica Thomas scored 20 points for Miami (20-13). Guard Adrienne Motley added 18 points.

Gonzaga 76, Oregon State 64

Reserve center Emma Wolfram scored 17 points and 11th-seeded Gonzaga upset No. 3 Oregon State in the second round in Corvallis, Oregon.

Guard Elle Tinkle added 14 for Gonzaga (26-7), which faces the winner of Monday’s second-round game between Pittsburgh and Tennessee in the Spokane Region semifinal on Saturday.

Guard Jamie Weisner scored 24 points for Oregon State (27-5).

S. Carolina 97, Syracuse 68

Center Alaina Coates and guard Tiffany Mitchell scored 14 points apiece, and top-seeded South Carolina cruised past No. 8 Syracuse in the second round in Columbia, N.C.

The Gamecocks shot 55 percent and placed six in double figures. Guard A’ja Wilson and forward Aleighsa Welch added 13 points apiece for the Gamecocks (32-2), who will face Ohio State or North Carolina on Friday in the Greensboro Region semifinal.

Guard Alexis Peterson scored 23 points for Syracuse (22-10)

Arizona State 74, Ohio 55

Guard Katie Hempen hit five 3-pointers and scored 23 points as third-seeded Arizona State defeated No. 14 Ohio in the first round of the Greensboro Regional in Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday.

Forward Sophie Brunner added 14 points and guard Arnecia Hawkins contributed 12 for the Sun Devils (28-5), who face Arkansas Little Rock in Monday’s second round.

Guard Quiera Lampkins scored 17 points for Ohio (27-5), which committed 18 turnovers and was 4 of 16 from 3-point range.

Stanford 73, Cal State Northridge 60

Reserve forward Taylor Greenfield scored 19 points and fourth-seeded Stanford used a 14-0 run in the second half to pull away from No. 13 Cal State Northridge in the first round of the Oklahoma City Regional in Stanford, Calif., on Saturday.

Guard Lilli Thompson scored seven of her 17 points during the deciding run and forward Bonnie Samuelson added 14 for Stanford (25-9). The Cardinal will face fifth-seeded Oklahoma in the second round on Monday.

Guard Ashlee Guay scored 27 points for the Matadors (23-10), who led by six points early in the second half.
