BANGOR, Maine — An electronic vandalism group that claimed responsibility for taking down the Maine state government website earlier in the week claimed Wednesday morning to knock offline the BDN and WABI websites.
The group hit the websites with a Denial of Service attack — essentially where they attempt to hit the website’s servers with so many requests that others can’t get through.
While the WABI website appeared down early Wednesday morning, the BDN website did not have any significant disruption.
The BDN website has not been “hacked” — the group never gained access to the website’s servers — and there is no indication that the group was able to access any other website servers, either. The attack appears to be limited wholly to trying to overload servers in an attempt to limit others’ access to the websites.
