PORTLAND, Maine — A York County man who drove the getaway car for two men who robbed at gunpoint a Family Dollar Store in December 2013 was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to 15 years in prison on robbery and gun charges.
Walter Heathcote, 26, who got $80 of the $600 stolen cash, was the last of the trio to be sentenced, according to court documents. The trio also stole cigarettes.
Ryan Forrest, 28, and Charles Reed III, 40, were sentenced in January and February, respectively.
Forrest was sentenced to 10 years and five months in federal prison.
Reed, who pointed a rifle at a store clerk, according to court documents, was sentenced to 16 years in prison
The trio lived together, but court documents did not say where. They were described by the U.S. attorney’s office, which prosecuted the case, as “roommates and fellow drug addicts.”
On Dec. 2, 2013, the men went to the Family Dollar Store in Biddeford. Heathcote drove to and from the robbery, while Forest and Reed went inside, according to court documents.
In addition to prison time, the men each were sentenced to five years of supervised release. They also were ordered to pay $656.80 in restitution to the store.
