CARIBOU, Maine — Spring flooding on the Aroostook River prompted the Maine Department of Transportation to close Grimes Road where it becomes North Caribou Road at the Fort Fairfield-Caribou town line.

According to a Caribou Police Department dispatcher, the road was closed around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and drivers should seek alternate routes.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for eastern Aroostook County through early Thursday morning as snowmelt causes rising water levels on area rivers and streams.

Ice jams were reported in the Aroostook River and Little Madawaska River, according to the weather service Wednesday evening.
