BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 19-year-old Hope man remained in Cumberland County Jail Thursday afternoon, charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs after Brunswick police allegedly found him in possession of seven grams of crack cocaine.
Benjamin Welt was a passenger in a car driven by 20-year-old Gregory Wolff of Camden, who was stopped during an impaired driving detail by officers in Brunswick Monday night, Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said.
Officers said they could smell marijuana coming from the car and following a search of the vehicle issued Wolff a summons for unlawful possession of hashish, sale and use of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Welt, who was on bail for a prior burglary offense and subject to random searches, allegedly was in possession of a bag containing prescription stimulants for which he had no prescription, as well as seven grams of crack cocaine, Hagan said.
He was charged with Class A aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs and violation of conditions of release. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, according to a jail official.
