EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick — A CN train derailed along Route 144 between the Saint-Basile and the town of Green River on Friday afternoon, the Edmundston Fire Department was called to assist, according to town officials.

The train was traveling west into Edmundston from Moncton and derailed around 3 p.m., when several empty tank cars left the track, according to a statement from the town.

No injuries were reported.

The Ministry of Environment responded to the scene, as did the Edmundston Police Department, firefighters and an ambulance service. Access to the site was restricted to emergency personnel, and a portion of Route 144 between Exit 26 and Smyth Road was closed for several miles.

The train also was carrying wood, paper products and vehicles.
