LUDLOW, Maine — A tree felled by a beaver caused a power outage that affected more than 2,500 Aroostook County customers of Emera Maine on Monday night and Tuesday.
The downed tree just south of Houlton took out a transmission line serving customers in Ludlow, Oakfield, Sherman, Island Falls and Patten, according to Bob Potts, spokesman for Emera.
Emera crews worked overnight to trace the cause and then began to restore service but the downed tree “is in a very remote, wooded area which has been challenging to reach,” Potts said early Tuesday morning.
A rain and wind storm that moved into the area further hampered repair efforts, according to Potts.
The outage caused by the beaver was resolved by about 1 p.m. Tuesday, he reported later.
