As part of their senior project, University of Maine at Machias students Michelle Grant and Jordyn Knowles launched a local Clothesline Project. It’s a national program that aims to raise awareness of domestic and sexual violence.
The seniors held T-shirt making workshops and a domestic violence awareness walk April 12. At the end of the walk, the decorated T-shirts were displayed on a series of clotheslines.
The T-shirts of different colors were decorated by victims and those who support them. Yellow represents domestic violence; blue represents child abuse; pink is for sexual violence; and white is for those killed by domestic violence.
The T-shirts, some of which are displayed below, will now be donated to the national Clothesline Project and become part of a traveling exhibit.
