AREA — The Penobscot Valley Chapter of Maine Audubon and Fields Pond Audubon Center will offer guided neighborhood bird walks 7-8:30 a.m. throughout May. Rubber boots or waterproof shoes are recommended due to wet grass and occasional muddy conditions. In consideration of wildlife and fellow birders, participants are asked to leave their pets at home. There is no cost to take part in the bird walks.

The schedule is:

  • Friday, May 8, Indian Trail and Penobscot County Conservation Association, Brewer,

with Gordon Russell and Jane Rosinski. Meet at the association building, North Main Street.

  • Saturday, May 9, part of Spring Fest, International Migratory Bird Day, Fields Pond Audubon Center, Holden, with Bruce Barker and Jerry Smith. Meet in parking lot.
  • Tuesday, May 12:  Bangor City Forest, Bangor, with  Paul Markson and Gloria Vollmers. Meet at parking lot at end of Kittredge Road.
  • Wednesday, May 13,  Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, with Jim and Kathy Zeman. Meet in the parking area inside the State Street entrance.
  • Friday, May 15,  Saxl Park, Bangor, with Laura Levenson and Elizabeth Payne. Meet in the Cascade Park parking lot, just off State Street.
  • Monday, May 18,  Leonard’s Mills, Bradley, with Sandi Duchesne. Meet at the junction of Government Road and Route 178.
  • Wednesday, May 20,  Bangor City Forest, Bangor, with Paul Corcoran. Meet at the parking lot at end of Tripp Drive.
  • Thursday, May 21,  Essex Woods, Bangor, with Robert Ostrowski and Gordon Russell. Meet in the parking lot at the end of Watchmaker Road.
  • Friday, May 22,  Caribou Bog area, Orono, co-sponsored by Orono Land Trust, with Elizabeth Payne and Holly Twining. Meet at the parking area, 0.3 mile in on Taylor Road from Forest Avenue.
  • Saturday, May 23,  Technology Park, Orono, with Jerry Longcore and Jim Bird. On Godfrey Drive, across from the Black Bear Inn, go past Lexis Nexis on left, turn left after the next white building, meet in the rear parking lot.
  • Tuesday, May 26,  West Penjajawoc Preserve, Bangor, co-sponsored by Bangor Land Trust, with Elizabeth Payne and Gordon Russell. Meet at the dead end of Fox Hollow Lane, off Essex Street
  • Wednesday, May 27,  Kenduskeag Stream Trail, Bangor, with Hope Brogunier, Gordon Russell and Jane Rosinski. Meet in the second parking lot upstream of the intersection of Valley Avenue and Bruce Road.
  • Thursday, May 28,  University of Maine, Orono, with Sandi Duchesne. Meet in the parking lot on Route 2 (Park Street), approximately one mile north of Rangeley Road campus entrance.
  • Friday, May 29, Stillwater River Trail, Orono, with  Elizabeth Payne and Holly Twining. Meet at the parking lot at the intersection of Bennoch Road and Noyes Drive.
