READING, Pa — The Portland Sea Dogs snapped a four-game losing streak, defeating the Reading Fightin Phils 3-0 on Friday night in an Eastern League game at First Energy Stadium.
The game lasted just 2 hours and 5 minutes.
Portland’s pitchers tied a season-high with 14 strikeouts and earned their first shutout of the season.
William Cuevas (3-1) earned his team-leading third win, giving up just three hits on one walk and six strikeouts over five innings. Pat Light earned his second hold with two hitless innings and five strikeouts.
Dayan Diaz worked around a one-out ripple in the eighth and pitched the final two innings for his second save of the year.
Zach Eflin (2-1) worked a season-high eight innings, allowing his first three runs in Double-A, taking the loss for Reading.
Portland ended Eflin’s scoreless streak at 16 2/3 innings with two runs in the second inning. Oscar Tejeda led off with a single and David Chester followed with a long homer to left. For Chester, it was his second homer of the season, but just the sixth for the team.
The Sea Dogs add the final run in the eighth inning off Eflin. Jonathan Roof tripled to center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Luis Martinez.
