BANGOR, Maine — Dennis Lally, who has served with the Bangor police force for more than two decades, has announced his retirement, Sgt. Tim Cotton said Tuesday.

Lally was hired in the summer of 1990 and announced his retirement in April, Cotton said.

Lally, a graduate of Bucksport High School and Husson College, where he played baseball and earned a business degree, also was a member of the Bangor police department’s bomb squad, in addition to being a Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer at the Mary Snow School.

Lally also was assigned to Bangor International Airport for many years. He is active as a coach in Glenburn’s Little League program.
