MILLINOCKET, Maine — An autopsy is scheduled Friday on the body of a 6-month-old boy as state police continue investigating his death, a spokesman said.
Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said he is awaiting an update from investigators and the medical examiner’s office on how the child died.
“We will get those answers from a variety of sources, including, we hope, the autopsy,” McCausland said Friday.
The infant was found unresponsive at a Katahdin Avenue residence Tuesday night. The child was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he died Thursday, McCausland said previously.
The mother of the infant called for an ambulance Tuesday night, and the Millinocket Fire Department ambulance took the boy to Millinocket Regional Hospital before LifeFlight transferred him, McCausland has said.
McCausland cautioned that state police investigate all untimely deaths, whether suspicious or otherwise. A spokesman for the medical examiner’s office did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
The Bangor Daily News is withholding the name of the child and his family, pending the disposition of the state police investigation.
