Sunday, May 10, is Mother’s Day. A day to honor the incredible women in our lives that we call Mom. Mother’s Day was originated by two women, Julia Ward Howe and Anna Marie Jarvis. Howe sponsored Mother’s Day each year in Boston around 1870, which lasted about 10 years. Jarvis organized the first Mother’s Day celebration at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which now holds the International Mother’s Day Shrine. Mother’s Day has been held on the second Sunday of May since. Many people give cards, flowers, candies, a night out at a restaurant or other treats as a way to say thank you — others make a special effort to visit.
To all those incredible women, Happy Mother’s Day.
