BANGOR, Maine — The number of noise complaints from area residents stemming from Saturday’s Rise Above Fest at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion was significantly down from the 2014 festival featuring heavy-metal rock bands, according to a city official.
Tanya Emery, Community and Economic Development Director for the city, said in an email Monday that 86 noise complaints were fielded during the all-day festival, compared to 124 last spring.
“This is down significantly from what we had for this concert last year,” Emery wrote.
Emery noted that roughly 90 percent of the complaints the city received were via phone calls placed to police. The remainder came in through the city’s website, emails, and Facebook postings, she wrote. Bangor Police Dept. spokesman Tim Cotton referred inquiries about the complaints to the city.
The city has received noise complaints from residents since the Waterfront Concert series debuted in 2010.
In 2013, concerts were performed on a stage redesigned to face downtown Bangor as opposed to the city’s West Side Village.
