BREWER — Students of Next Generation Theatre Youth Program will perform Disney’s “High School Musical Jr.” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 15-16, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May16-17. The play will be directed by veteran student performers Daniel Perkins, Laura Gordon and Elliot Tuttle.

“I have had the honor of directing here for three years. I love watching the improvement and heightened confidence of the students. ‘High School Musical’ is a fast-paced ode to challenges through the teen years, complete with catchy pop music!” Perkins said.

After this season, Perkins will start of something new as he bids farewell to Next Generation Theatre and heads off to the University of Maine in the fall to pursue a degree in secondary English education. He first performed for the theater as the scarecrow in “The Wizard of Oz” in 2010. Since then he has performed in many shows including “Sweeney Todd” “The Wizard of Oz” with Penobscot Theatre Company, and most recently in “The Complete History of America (Abridged)” with the Winterport Open Stage.

“It has been so much fun to watch him go from the scarecrow in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to Sweeney Todd. I have watched his talent grow so much over the years. He has so many fans here at NGT who will all be missing him when he graduates in the spring. He has been an influence and inspiration to so many kids and I know he’ll be a great teacher someday,” said Tracey Marceron, Next Generation Theatre owner.
