BANGOR — The Bangor Parks and Recreation Department announced that it still has openings in its Kids Cave Summer Camp for children entering kindergarten through grade six, and in its Middle School Travel Camp for students entering grades six through eight.
- The Kids Cave Summer Camp runs 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Camp starts the week of June 22 and ends the week of Aug. 10. Each week will have a special event or trip. Camp locations include 14th Street School (kindergarten through first grade), Fairmount School
(grades two and three), and Mary Snow School (grades four through six). The camp fee is $100 per week to Bangor residents, $115 per week other.
- The Middle School Camp runs 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Camp starts the week of June 22 and ends the week of Aug. 10. Each week will offer activities in Bangor including at the Pancoe Pool, area beaches, mini golf and field trips. The cost to attend the camp, including field trips, is $100 per week to Bangor residents, $115 others.
- Bangor Parks and Recreation will offer a new travel program, Teen Adventure Trips for those in grades seven to 10. It will consist of two overnight camping trips. The first trip will be to the Moosehead Lake region July 9-10. Participants will have the opportunity to swim, hike and fish. The cost is $50 per person with 10 spots available.
The second trip will be to The Forks for whitewater rafting, rock climbing and camping July 30-31. The cost is $100 per person with 10 spots available.
- The Fairmount Fun in the Sun program is a new take on traditional summer school. It will offer students the opportunity to enhance their understanding of key concepts needed to be successful in the upcoming school year. These concepts will be taught using hands-on project based activities developed by Fairmount teachers. The goal is for students to have fun learning and to enjoy outdoor activities.
The Fairmount Fun in the Sun Program runs 9 a.m.-3 p.m.Monday through Friday starting the week of June 22, at Fairmount School in Bangor. The fee for the program is $65 per week and is open to all children attending Fairmount School for the 2015-2016 school year. Bus transportation is available for an extra fee. - The Bangor Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for its 2015-2016 School year, Kids Cave Before and After School Programs for children in kindergarten through grade five. The program open at 7 a.m. before school and runs after school 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday from Sept. 1 to the end of the school year in June, at the parks and recreation center.
The cost of the after school program is $60 per week per child or $48 for 1 to 4 days. The cost for the before school program is $30 per week per child. The cost for the both the before school and after school programs is $85 per week per child. The programs offer homework time, snacks, fun and other surprises.
Kids Cave offers transportation to and from Bangor schools. Children are bused to their schools in the morning and to the Parks and Rec Center after school.
