Life coach Kristin Hornbrook of Hampden has set herself a goal: to educate every person she meets about the power of “self-talk” so that individuals, businesses or organizations can achieve their goals.
“I want to do this the rest of my life,” Hornbrook said, her enthusiasm for her new business, Defeat Your Goliath, filling her voice.
Although Hornbrook, who grew up in Yarmouth, but lived in many parts of the United States during her childhood, launched Defeat Your Goliath at the end of January, she said everything she ever did in her life led her to her newest endeavor.
“When I look back and think about the things I learned, the people I met, people from all over, I realize it was invaluable to what I am doing now. What I learned is that we are all the same inside. It also taught me patience, to be forgiving and to be understanding.”
When her children, a son and a daughter, were young, she stayed at home to be a full-time time mom, but she also ran a home-based networking business selling skincare and makeup products. During that period of her life, she said, “I earned a white Mercedes and helped three others in the business earn a Mercedes.” That experience led to other home-based businesses, including Arbon.
In 2008, Hornbrook took training to become a Gove certified corporate speaker. She also is a Life Coach Institute certified life and business coach and a Self-Talk Institute self-talk trainer. Hornbrook’s life coaching sessions are done by telephone. Clients, who may be individuals, businesses or organizations, book one-hour sessions for a period of one month at a time. She does on-site, face-to-face sessions, with businesses and organizations. Clients’ goals, she said, often are work, health, lifestyle or financial in nature.
“It’s very exciting,” Hornbrook said, “to watch people who are stuck dig themselves out and get back on track.”
