When Bruce Jenner sat for a televised interview with Diane Sawyer and came out as transgender, he asked that Sawyer call him Bruce and use male pronouns.
We now know that Bruce Jenner has requested that she now be called Caitlyn in an interview with “Friday Night Lights” author Buzz Bissinger. Vanity Fair published its July cover online Monday, introducing Caitlyn Jenner to the world in a white satin merrywidow and matching panties, with minimal makeup, photographed by Annie Leibovitz. Early comparisons ranged from Rene Russo to Cindy Crawford to Jessica Lange.
“If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life,’” she told him.
Jenner, 65, debuted a new Twitter handle with the cover and quickly amassed more than 150,000 followers less than an hour after publishing her first tweet.
“I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.”
The magazine has published behind-the-scenes video of Jenner’s photo shoot. “I was probably at the [Olympic] Games because I was running away from a lot of things … very, very proud of the accomplishment,” Jenner said. “I don’t want to diminish that accomplishment. The last few days and doing this shoot, was about my life and who I am as a person. It’s not the fanfare. It’s not about people cheering in the stadium. It’s not about going down the street and everybody giving you a ‘thatta boy Bruce’ pat on the back, OK? This is about your life.”
