Red Sox fan hit by bat upgraded to fair condition

The fan who was hit in the head by a broken bat at Fenway Park last week has been upgraded to fair condition.

The family of Tonya Carpenter, 44, said Monday that “Tonya is responsive, and her condition has been upgraded from serious to fair.”

She had been listed in serious condition over the weekend while being treated at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Carpenter, who was seated in the box seats, was struck on the head by the broken bat of Oakland third baseman Brett Lawrie in the second inning Friday.

The game was halted as emergency crews tended to Carpenter and wheeled her off the field on a stretcher.

Bruins sign Friars’ Acciari

The Boston Bruins have signed signed forward Noel Acciari to an entry-level contract.

Acciari skated in 41 games this season for the 2015 NCAA national champion Providence College Friars, where he registered 15 goals to lead the team and 17 assists (fourth on the team) for 32 points (tied for second on the team), which were all career highs.

The 23-year-old Acciari earned several accolades helping the Friars to their first-ever national championship, including NCAA East Regional Most Outstanding Player and Hockey East Defensive Player of the Year. He also was named to the NCAA All-East Regional Team.

NBA Finals setting ratings records

The 2015 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers is the most-watched and highest-rated ever on ABC through the first two games, according to Nielsen.

The best-of-seven series — currently even at one game apiece after the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors 95-93 in overtime Sunday night — is averaging a 10.6 U.S. household rating.

Sunday’s game delivered 18,795,000 viewers, the most-watched NBA Finals Game 2 ever on ABC. It peaked with 24.4 million viewers at 11 p.m. ET. Game 2 was up 26 percent from 14,914,000 viewers for the Miami Heat-San Antonio Spurs matchup last season.

Veteran pitcher Correia to start for Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies signed veteran right-hander Kevin Correia on Monday and announced he will start Friday in Pittsburgh.

Correia was to join the Phillies in Cincinnati on Monday.

Correia, 34, posted a 3.58 ERA in six starts for San Francisco’s Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento before opting out of his deal with the Giants.

In 12 years with five teams, Correia is 76-95 with a 4.59 ERA. With the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers last season, he was 7-17 with a 5.44 ERA.

Iowa State hires Murray State’s Prohm

The Iowa State Cyclones hired Murray State coach Steve Prohm to replace Fred Hoiberg, the school announced Monday.

Prohm agreed to a five-year contract with a base salary of $1.5 million.

The 40-year-old Prohm, a two-time Ohio Valley Conference coach of the year, was the head coach at Murray State for the past four years, compiling a 104-29 record and winning at least 21 games in each season. He led the Racers to the NCAA Tournament in his first season.

Last season, the Racers finished 29-6 (16-0 OVC) after losing to Old Dominion in the NIT quarterfinals.
