RICHMOND, Virginia — The Portland Sea Dogs erased an early 4-0 deficit, and defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-4 in Double-A action Thursday night at the Diamond.
Portland’s pitchers closed out the game with 7 ⅔ hitless innings.
The Sea Dogs snapped a six-game losing streak and ended Richmond’s six-game win streak.
Portland scored three runs to take the lead for good in the eighth. Luis Martinez and Jonathan Roof had RBI singles to tie the game. The game-winning RBI came on Reed Gragnani’s sacrifice fly o left field. Gragnani is a Richmond native and finished with two hits.
Portland scored on five of six walks issued by Richmond pitchers.
Portland’s Robby Scott (1-0) retired all four batters with two strikeouts to earn the win. Madison Younginer capped off the perfect night for the bullpen, working 1 ⅔ innings and two strikeouts to earn his first Double-A save.
Jose Casilla (2-3) took the loss for the Flying Squirrels, giving up one run in just one-third of an inning.
