BANGOR, Maine — An odor of smoke in the cabin forced an Air Canada flight to make an emergency landing at Bangor International Airport on Monday, according to officials.

Air Canada Flight 692, which was headed from Toronto to St. John’s, Newfoundland, touched down at BIA shortly after 2 p.m., according to airport director Tony Caruso.

Peter Fitzpatrick, a spokesman for Air Canada, said a replacement aircraft was sent to Bangor on Monday evening to take the passengers to St. John’s.

Caruso said that aircraft left BIA shortly before 10 p.m. Monday

Fitzpatrick said the crew made the decision to land when the odor was detected in the cabin.

None of the 94 passengers and four crew members aboard the Embraer E-190 aircraft were injured.

The passengers and crew were taken to a sterile gate area at BIA during the delay, where they were provided with food and beverages.

The Air Guard rescue response team made the initial response, and Bangor police and fire officials also responded.
