HAMPDEN —  Ryan M. Cole of Boy Scout Troop 41 and the youngest son of David and Clare Cole of Hampden, was honored on March 22 for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

For Ryan’s Eagle community service project, he organized the construction of a 16- by 65-foot bridge over Reeds Brook in Hampden as part of the Reeds Brook Recreational Trail project.

The trail project was a combined effort of Regional School Unit 22, Penobscot Valley Ski Club and Hampden community members to develop a nonmotorized, four-season trail system in the center of Hampden for use by the public as well as RSU 22 sports teams.

The current trail is located adjacent to Reeds Brook Middle School on the Hampden schools campus.

Ryan’s service project brought multiple community members, businesses, and Troop 41 Scouts and leaders together to complete a project that totaled 400 man hours and will benefit the community for many years to come.

Ryan graduated from Hampden Academy in June and will attend the University of Maine.
