BANGOR, Maine — Five Bangor police officers bested their fire department counterparts Tuesday to win the second annual Guns and Hoses Paul Bunyan Burger Challenge at Hollywood Casino.
None of the 10 competitors managed to finish the 2-pound burger, but the police officers managed to finish more food than the firefighters, according to a statement from Dan Cashman of Cashman Communications.
The police department’s victory earned $1,000 for their chosen charity, Special Olympics Maine, while the fire department received $500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Paul Bunyan Burger is topped with 1 pound of thick-cut bacon, four slices of cheese, a whole tomato, a head of lettuce and an onion and is served with a full pound of french fries.
The police department’s team consisted of Officers Jim Morrill, Jim Burns, David Olmstead, Evan Haskell and Aaron Booker.
Comprising the firefighters’ team were Andrew Peterson, Ryan Taylor, Jeff Sennett, Dan Landers and Joe Donovan.
