TRENTON, New Jersey — Trenton received the game-winning run in the sixth inning on a pinch-hit RBI single from Mark Payton and defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 2-1 Tuesday night in Eastern League baseball action at Arm & Hammer Park.

Trenton has won the first two games of the series.

Thunder reliever Andury Acevedo (1-2) fired four hitless innings on just a walk to earn the win. Mark Montgomery worked around a one-out single in the ninth to earn his 11th save of the season.

Luis Diaz (1-9) suffered the loss for the Sea Dogs, but tossed his sixth straight quality start. Diaz allowed two runs (one earned) over six innings with five hits.

Portland tied the game at one in the third inning off starter Danny Burawa. Aneury Tavarez led off with a walk, stole second base and advanced to third base on a throwing error. Jordan Weems delivered an RBI groundout in his first Double-A at-bat.

Trenton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a run-scoring fielder’s choice by Taylor Dugas.

In the sixth, Trenton put two on with nobody out, but Tzu-Wei Lin made a great catch in a line drive to start a 6-4 double play. Ali Castillo stole second base and scored the game-winner on Payton’s pinch-hit single.

Portland had just three hits (two infield singles) and Trenton committed four errors.
