A gift of music
BANGOR — Maine Public Broadcasting Network announced recently that its musical instrument drive that accompanied MPBN’s “Music That Moves ME” audio series aired in June resulted in the collection of more than 175 musical instruments. The instruments will be refurbished and distributed to needy young musicians statewide by MPBN’s partner in this endeavor, The Gifts of Music, based in Orrington.
“The incredible generosity and caring of our members, listeners and viewers continues to inspire all of us,” said MPBN President and CEO Mark Vogelzang. “The donated instruments will mean so much to those aspiring young musicians and will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark with each of them as they pursue their love of music.”
MPBN collected the instruments at its Portland, Lewiston and Bangor studios for one month and received a broad range of instruments from percussion sets to brass instruments of every variety to reeds.
This is the third year that MPBN and The Gifts of Music have partnered on an instrument donation drive and planning is underway to continue the initiative in 2016.
