Mindful Sketching class

BANGOR — Bangor Land Trust is offering a two-part Mindful Sketching class with Kay Carter

3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 14, in the Bangor Land Trust Office, and 3-5 pm Wednesday, Oct 21, at one of the Bangor Land Trust Preserves.

Space is limited and advance registration is required. Preference will be given to land trust members.

In Part 1 of the class, Carter will show some of her sketches, talk about technique and share the basics of using pen and ink.  

In Part 2, participants will choose a place in the land trust preserves and do a sketch, up close and personal, of what they see. Carter will guide participants into a quiet meditative way of being there.

Fall Theater Session

BREWER — Next Generation Theatre announced that its Fall Theater Session will begin Sept. 9, with auditions held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The youth group, ages 5 to 11, will rehearse for “101 Dalmations” 4-6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

The middle group, ages 10 to 15, will rehearse for “Bugsy Malone Jr.” 6-7 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

The teen group, ages 13-18, will rehearse for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” 12:30-3:30 p.m. Sundays.

Dance classes in tap, musical theater and clogging will start Monday, Sept. 14. Three classes will be offered to adults on Thursdays. Creative movement classes for children ages 3 and up will take place Friday mornings and is designed to allow parent participation. A tap-ballet class for homeschooled students also is planned.

A creative movement class for students with disabilities and a pairing of youth clogging and youth bluegrass jam also is planned.

‘Evil Dead the Musical’ auditions

ORONO — Some Theatre Company will hold auditions for “Evil Dead the Musical” at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Keith Anderson Community House, Bennoch Road.

Auditioners are asked to prepare 16 bars of a song of their choice in the same style as “Evil Dead the Musical.” Auditioners who familiarize themselves with the show’s music will be considered a plus.

A short choreography routine will be part of the audition. Be prepared to move and groove with the choreographer. A short cold reading also will be required.

Artist in residence

SEARSPORT — Artist in residence Maryly Matthewman of New Hampshire will create faces out of bits of fabric during her residency Aug. 9-15 at Searsport Shores Ocean Campground. She also will help campers create a self-portrait to take home.

Matthewman also is available to teach knitting.

Those who already know how to knit and would like to knit with others are encouraged to stop in.

Photo workshop

SEARSPORT — Draw, color and paint on photographs from the Penobscot Marine Museum collection to create your own work of art in the Photoplay workshop with M.J. Bronstein 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the museum.

An artist and photographer, Bronstein is the creator of PhotoPlay books.

Supplies will be provided. Tickets are $5, free to members and Searsport residents. The workshop is for those of all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Artist in residence

SEARSPORT — Mihoko Wakabayashi of Worcester, Massachusetts, a native of Japan and saori weaver will be the artist in residence Aug. 16-22 at Searsport Shores Ocean Campground. She will share her skills in weaving, Japanese paper dyeing and origami with those of all ages.

The program is sponsored by Fiber College of Maine.
