WATERVILLE, Maine — A Freedom man is facing multiple charges after a string of alleged domestic violence incidents involving his 1-year-old child and a female family member, according to police.

The first incident involving Travis Coro, 29, occurred on July 17, which the woman reported to police the following day, Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.

Coro apparently had become enraged when the infant did not go to sleep when he wanted and allegedly slammed the child down in a collapsible crib and spanked the baby, Rumsey said.

The child, who was at a third party’s residence at the time of the first incident report, was taken to Inland Hospital for bruises on its rear legs and buttocks, Rumsey said.

The woman also claimed Coro had thrown her down on a bed while she tried to intervene in the assault on the child and did not allow her access to a phone when she tried to call police.

Coro subsequently was contacted by police, arrested and charged with assault, a Class C felony, and misdemeanor counts of domestic violence assault and obstructing the report of a crime.

Coro was released on bail the night of his arrest. On Aug. 7, the same woman reported to police that Coro had been abusive between the time he originally was released from jail and Aug. 7, which included alleged attempted strangulation to the point at which the woman became unconscious.

Rumsey said police and the District Attorney’s office made the decision to arrest Coro again after conducting another investigation. Coro was arrested during a traffic stop and was charged with aggravated assault, a Class B felony.

Bail for Coro was set at $5,000 at his arraignment Monday. He remained in county lockup Tuesday.
