DEXTER, Maine — A small airplane carrying two people crashed about 400 feet off a runway at Dexter Regional Airport shortly before 9 a.m., officials said Saturday.
Airport Manager Roger Nelson described the craft as a Beechcraft 150 and said it came down near Runway 7/25. He declined to comment further. Penobscot County sheriffs and Dexter firefighters are among the rescue workers responding.
It was unclear whether the plane was landing or taking off. Runway 7/25 is a 1,250 feet unlit grass runway at the two-runway, town-owned airport, according to airnav.com, a website specializing in aviation information for pilots.
