ORIENT, Maine — Several people were injured Saturday afternoon after the car they were traveling in crashed into a tree after the driver reportedly leaned over to get in frame for a selfie, according to state police.

Jordan Toner, 29, of Hampden and seven friends were traveling on Deering Lake Road in Orient around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, state police said.

As one of his friends was taking a selfie, Toner allegedly leaned over to get into the picture when the 2014 Mazda CX5 he was driving went off the road and hit a tree, police said.

Multiple passengers suffered injuries that included broken bones.

Toner has been charged for failing to maintain control of the car while being distracted.
