BANGOR, Maine — The 18th annual rubber duck race sponsored by the Good Samaritan Agency raised more than $7,000 as nearly 1,000 toy ducks floated their way down the Kenduskeag Stream on Saturday.

Money raised during the fundraiser supports the agency’s mission to help people with special needs gain better access to pregnancy and parenting services and support, in an effort to improve their lives.

Participants in the race purchased numbered ducks, which were floated down the stream for approximately 300 yards. Prizes were donated by local businesses and awarded for various finishing places, including last place.

According to organizer Andy Meucci, the duck race has at least tripled in size since its founding.

Located in Bangor and serving the Penobscot area, the Good Samaritan Agency provides services such as home-based parenting, single-parent counseling and education, low-cost childcare to qualifying families, and adoption support services.
