BIDDEFORD, Maine — The University of New England and New Hampshire’s Great Bay Community College plan to enter an agreement that will allow the community college students to transfer easily into programs at UNE.

Under the agreement, GBCC students who earn a two-year associate degree can take those credits with them when they transfer into any of the bachelor’s or master’s degree programs at UNE, according to the schools.

“GBCC has demonstrated that its students are successful when they transfer to UNE, and UNE continues to offer what GBCC students and others have come to expect — a high return on investment,” said UNE Provost Jim Koelbl in a news release.

The community college started the push for a written agreement several months ago after it saw an increase in the number of students enrolling in community college to take required undergraduate science courses before transferring to the physician’s assistant master’s degree program at UNE.

“This exciting new partnership provides our students expanded access to defined career pathways,” said GBCC President Will Arvelo.

UNE has campuses in Biddeford and Portland.

The schools will recognize the new partnership during a signing ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday at GBCC’s Portsmouth campus.

The University of Maine System and Maine Community College System signed a similar transfer agreement between their 14 institutions in June.
