HOLDEN, Maine — Older or disabled residents who live alone are invited to sign up for a new daily check-in service, Holden Police Chief Chris Greeley said Monday.
The Good Morning Project program aims to help elderly and disabled residents continue living independent lifestyles while eliminating some of the concerns that families may have about loved ones who live alone, Greeley said.
The free program provides the security of knowing that a family member will have a source of daily contact. Residents who are age 60 or older or disabled and who live alone are eligible for service, he said.
Participants will receive a “good morning” phone call from a firefighter, police officer or a member of the town office staff each day between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
If contact cannot be made by phone, public safety personnel will go to a participant’s home to check on his or her well-being.
To sign up, eligible residents should complete an application that includes listing contact information for people who live nearby and their primary care physician, who to notify in the event of an emergency, medical conditions and medications.
Applications can be downloaded from the town’s website or picked up at the town office. Anyone unable to get to the town office can have a form mailed to their home.
