MADRID, Maine — Two men reported missing after failing to return home from an off-roading trip in western Maine late Tuesday have been located alive and well, according to warden officials.

Travis S. Mosher, 42, of Rangeley and Douglas S. Richmond, 49, of Madrid were reported missing after they did not return from an afternoon of off-roading in their jeep Tuesday, according to Maine Game Warden spokesman Cpl. John MacDonald.

Mosher met Richmond at his Madrid residence in Mosher’s recently purchased Jeep Liberty at around 2 p.m. and set out together to points unknown, MacDonald said. Attempts to reach the two men by cellphone later that evening were unsuccessful.

The sport utility vehicle with street tires became stuck at dusk on an all-terrain vehicle trail approximately 2 to 3 miles from Richmond’s residence in Madrid Township, MacDonald reported in a news release issued Wednesday.

“The trail was extremely rough, even for an ATV,” the warden said.

Both men spent the night in the vehicle and at daylight Wednesday morning Mosher walked back to Richmond’s residence. Both men are fine and uninjured, according to MacDonald.

Mosher was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle on an ATV trail, which is a violation of state law.
