ALBANY, New York — The Albany Great Danes scored two second-half goals to snap Maine’s eight-game winning streak with a 2-1 America East field hockey victory over the Black Bears Friday.
The two teams are now tied for first in America East with 5-1 records. The Bears beat the Great Danes 6-2 on Oct. 9 in Orono.
Albany took a 1-0 lead on Friday when Paula Heuser beat three Maine defenders to find Anna Bottino on the right side for a goal at the 22:05 mark.
Heuser gave Albany a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 50:49, but Maine cut it back to a one-goal margin 11 minutes later when Cassidy Svetek scored on a Katie Bingle assist after a scramble in the circle.
Heuser added an insurance goal via a penalty corner at 66:58.
Albany outshot Maine 9-3 with Maine’s Emma Cochran and Emily Corbett splitting time in goal, but with neither making a save. Maxi Primus made one save for Albany.
Women’s Ice Hockey
Maine 4, Brown 0
At Auburn, Maine beat Brown in front of a sellout crowd at the Norway Savings Bank Arena.
Jillian Langtry and Brooke Stacey each added a goal and an assist in the victory. Goaltender Meghann Treacy made 14 saves.
Maine dominated the first 20-minutes of play, outshooting Brown 13-4 and hitting two posts before finally cashing in on the game’s first goal late in the first period. Langtry controlled the puck in the Brown zone before sliding a pass to Cassidy Herman, who ripped a shot past Brown goaltender Monica Elvin, 15:50 into the period, giving Maine a 1-0 edge
Maine added to its lead with a power play goal in the second period. Brooke Stacey won the draw back to Mikayla Rogers who found Alyson Matteau. She found the back of the net for the first time in her Maine career.
The Black Bears added a pair of goals in the third period. Brooke Stacey tallied her second goal of the year, finding the empty net from the blue-line. With four seconds remaining in regulation, Langtry forced a turnover and skated in, sneaking a backhand shot past Elvin, securing a 4-0 victory.
Maine held a 33-14 edge in shots on goal while finishing 1-5 on the power play and shutting Brown out on seven power-play opportunities.
